We’ve come up with some pretty terrific drinks to get you through this less-than-terrific Tuesday. Forget the Republican Party, forget the Democratic Party, tonight is all about the cocktail party.
Hell, even Franklin D. Roosevelt had cocktail parties in the White House ... once Prohibition was appealed in 1933, I'm sure. Rumor has it FDR had two martinis every night before dinner - it was a White House staple. FDR even shared his recipe with Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin. Can you imagine what Trump would drink with Putin?
Grab the booze and hang on to your hats. This could be a bumpy ride, that is, unless you check out these smooth drinks. Here are our picks for the best drinks to get you though the election:
The Suffragette
1 oz sloe gin
1 oz dry vermouth
1 oz sweet vermouth
A dash of orange bitters
Lemon twist
Stir in gin, vermouth and bitters in a mixing glass filled with ice. Strain into a “broken glass.” Add the twist of lemon.
The Orange Russian
2 oz Vodka
3/4 oz orange juice
1 oz half and half
A dash of orange bitters
Shake with ice and Strain into Melania’s shoe.
FDR's Dirty Martini - "The most American cocktail"
3 oz Plymouth gin
1/2 oz olive juice
1 or 2 olives
Lemon peel
Shake vigorously over ice. Strain into martini glass. Drop in olives, garnish with lemon peel.
